Skill System and Class Builds in Creator Chronicles
Magic School, Skill Books, and the 4-skill combination that fits each combat role.
Once you build the Magic School, guild members learn and swap skills suited to their classes. Use Skill Books and Skill Book Fragments to swap skills you have already discovered, then choose 4 skills to create your own combination. This page covers the Magic School, how skill discovery works, Skill Book Fragments, and recommended 4-skill builds for each of the eight combat roles.
The campaign is single-player. Skill swapping is a village management tool, not a real-time combat interrupt. You plan combinations at home and execute them in dungeons. Parallel parties still apply: one group can run Hidden Swamp while you rebuild a second crew’s skill loadout.
Magic School — the skill building
The Magic School is a full-build building, not a demo feature. Place it after your alchemy lab is running and you have at least six guild members. The school takes roughly 8,000 gold and a staffed slot, but it turns a party of generic hires into a tailored combat unit.
The Magic School teaches skills in two stages: discovery and application. Members discover skills by fighting in dungeons and using their class abilities in combat. Once discovered, skills appear in the Skill Book. You then spend Skill Book Fragments to swap a discovered skill into an active slot, choosing up to 4 active skills at once.
Skill Book Fragments come from dungeon clears, raid completions, and world events. They are not farmable in the way herbs are; treat them as milestone rewards rather than a daily loop.
How skill swapping works
Open the guild panel (G), select a member, and go to the Skill Book tab. Discovered skills appear as available entries. Spend fragments to make a skill active. Active skills are the 4 your member uses in the next dungeon run.
Swapping is not free. Each fragment cost depends on the skill’s tier: common skills cost fewer fragments, rare skills cost more. A Warrior who discovers a rare tank skill still needs to spend fragments to put it in the active slot over a standard shield ability.
Skills are class-gated. A Priest cannot equip Warrior-only skills, and a Mage cannot use Priest healing abilities. Within a class, you have genuine choice: a Hunter can run double trap and double arrow, or mix mobility and burst depending on the dungeon.
Recommended 4-skill builds
Warrior (Tank)
- Hold the Line (taunt, forces enemies to attack Warrior)
- Shield Bash (stun, interrupts enemy casts)
- Iron Skin (temporary damage reduction)
- Last Stand (damage boost when health is low) This kit keeps the pack on the Warrior and gives the healer a simple bar to manage.
Priest (Healer)
- Flash Heal (fast single-target heal)
- Renew (HoT, heal over time)
- Holy Shield (absorb next hit)
- Mass Relief (group heal on a timer) Priest mana is the hidden dungeon timer. An elf Priest with +1500 mana racial feels luxurious in long fights.
Hunter (Ranged DPS)
- Rapid Fire (haste buff, stacks with cooking and engineering)
- Tranquil Shot (steady damage, no rage cost)
- Trap (area control, pulls aggro off tank)
- Eagle Eye (critical damage boost) Hidden Swamp is a cramped cave; a Hunter with trap control gives the tank cleaner positioning.
Knight (Off-Tank / Hybrid)
- Challenge (area taunt, weaker than Warrior’s but affects multiple enemies)
- Blade Ward (parry chance increase)
- Formation (adjacent ally takes less damage)
- Retribution (damage reflect when hit) Knights shine in raids where multiple enemies pressure both tank and back line.
Mage (Caster DPS)
- Fireball (primary damage, scales with gnome spell power +100)
- Frost Nova (AoE root, buys time for healer)
- Arcane Intellect (mana efficiency boost)
- Meteor (long-cooldown burst) Mage wants Alchemy’s huge mana pool bonus in mid-village. A mage who drinks nothing will run dry in Raid 1.
Druid (Support / Off-Healer)
- Rejuvenation (main HoT for Druid)
- Maul (physical damage with bleed)
- Barkskin (temporary invulnerability)
- Nature’s Grasp (escape tool, reduces quit risk after a close call) Druids flex between roles and like Herbalism’s health bonus. They are not a worse Priest for the first dungeon, but they need more attention in the party planner.
Rogue (Burst DPS)
- Backstab (high damage from behind)
- Evasion (dodge window, 6 seconds)
- Poison Blade (damage-over-time on auto-attacks)
- Smoke Bomb (AoE blind, reduces incoming damage) Rogue is glass. On Conqueror a Rogue death can trigger permanent leave. Keep them on Beginner until you read combat logs fluently.
Warlock (Glass Caster)
- Shadow Bolt (primary spell damage)
- Life Drain (damage + small self-heal)
- Dark Pact (shield from health cost, risky on low health)
- Doom (long-cooldown AoE) Warlock belongs on a farmed party with potions, not on your first three invites. Gnome spell power +100 looks tempting; it is also how new masters wipe the tutorial cave.
Skill progression and fragments
Discovery is the slow part. A member who runs the same dungeon 10 times will discover new skills over those runs. Do not expect every member to have a full Skill Book after the first clear. Fragment income is similarly incremental: clear, raid, world event, repeat.
Save fragments for rare skills you have actually discovered. Spending fragments on a common skill you will replace in two more dungeon runs is a waste. Wait until the Skill Book shows a rare ability that fits the class, then commit fragments to swap it in.
Skill progression scales with member level. A level 20 member discovers skills faster than a level 5 member. That is another reason to keep your swamp triangle leveling while the second crew brews potions.
Magic School in the village plan
Place the Magic School after:
- Alchemy lab is producing potions
- At least 6 guild members exist
- Hidden Swamp first clear is done
- Food supply is stable
The school does not replace combat professions. A Warrior cook still provides the haste +40 from Cooking. The Magic School adds customization on top of the base profession bonuses, not instead of them.
See Character Creation for race bonuses that affect skill damage and mana, Combat for party-wide haste buffs, and Village buildings for the building order. Skill combinations that work in Hidden Swamp may need adjustment for Raids 1 through 7.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for new guild masters.
When does the Magic School unlock?
The Magic School is a full-build building arriving with the 14 September 2026 Steam launch. It is not in the public demo.
How do I get Skill Book Fragments?
Fragments come from dungeon clears, raid completions, and world events. They are milestone rewards, not a daily farm loop.
Can any class use any skill?
Skills are class-gated. A Priest cannot equip Warrior skills, and a Mage cannot use healing abilities. Within a class, you choose 4 from the discovered pool.
How many active skills can a member have?
Up to 4 active skills at once. Spend Skill Book Fragments to swap a discovered skill into an active slot.
Do discovered skills persist if I swap them out?
Yes. Discovered skills stay in the Skill Book. You can swap between them by spending fragments, but you do not need to rediscover a skill once found.
